Behind the newest art collection
Happy Spring y'all! I'm so excited about the warmer weather and longer days. To celebrate, I'll be releasing a new series of illustrations that will be available April 3rd. Until then, I wanted to go ahead and share sneak peeks and stories about the new collection with you.
No matter what the season is, I'm continually drawn to the the foods, flowers, and landscapes that fill the sunny southeast. Picasso said "inspiration exists, but it has to find you working," and my artistic process truly reflects this notion----the more I paint, the more inspired I am by everyday things. The world is filled with new color palettes if you just stop to notice them. Luckily, this unseasonably warm winter allowed me to spend extra time soaking up inspiration from my surroundings, which included everything from extra scoops of ice cream to the happy March daffodils.
The colorful celebration of the everyday that I just alluded to is a recurring theme in my new series, but these illustrations are primarily a reflection of what brings me joy. For example, flamingos realistically aren't a part of my daily life, but I feel they make the world a little brighter----just picture them walking around mundane places like a grocery store to understand what I mean. Call me crazy, but didn't the grocery store just get a little bit more fun? I hope the illustrations bring you this same sense of joy you just felt because my only goal as an artist is to continually create work that brightens your day.
GARDEN OF DAFFODILS (available as an 11x14, 16x20, and 18x24)
Emerson said, "the earth laughs in flowers," and the daffodils always remind me of this at the end of every winter. I don't think a more joyful flower exists, and for that reason daffodils will always be my favorite. It recently struck me that because of their seemingly limited lifespans (why can't grocery stores sell them?), I'm not surrounded by them as much as I'd like to be, and, in response to this sad realization, I obsessively began painting single daffodils to nail down the shape. From there, I then composed this garden version. The finished illustration, I hope, reflects the same happiness that daffodils bring me.
BELIEVE IN YOUR(SHELF)! (available as an 11x14, 16x20, and 18x24)
On colder days, I always find myself drawn to books. I know they say "don't judge a book by it's cover," but I'm endlessly fascinated by the colorful rows of books on a shelf and frequently paint them. I usually leave the spines of the books blank and focus only on the colors. However, for this piece, I decided to add extra detail by adding the titles of my favorite books and also some of yours! I collected recommendations on Instagram (follow @evelyn_henson), and then made sure to include the most frequently suggested books. The finished result is a dreamy library shelf that includes 100+ books (including a lettered encyclopedia) as well as hydrangeas, orchids, and peonies.
SEA-RIOUS FUN (available as an 11x14, 16x20, and 18x24)
This illustration represents one of my favorite places on earth: Sea Island, GA! Really, it could represent just about any beach, but I specifically referenced images I had of Sea Island as inspiration here. There are few things as gorgeous as a beach sunset, and that's about all I have to say about this piece. I always get asked about "where I find inspiration," and the truth is that it's often just noticing what's right in front of you. For me, sunsets (and sunrises) are the most reliable source of inspiration and beauty. No matter where we are or how badly the day has gone, we can thank God for providing us with a beautiful and colorful framework to begin and end our days with.
As mentioned, this collection will officially be available April 3rd. There will be 16 total fine art prints, all of which will be professionally printed on beautifully thick 310 gsm rag paper, a material that allows each piece to retain the same beautiful color quality that you would see in the original. 8 of the pieces will be available in sizes 8x10, 11x14, and 16x20, and the other 8 will be available in sizes 11x14, 16x20, and 18x24. I wanted to accommodate whatever sizes you need in your home, but I also felt really strongly that the latter 8 be viewed on a slightly larger scale. Please note that each print will only be available for a limited time.
